Vintage Jaeger LeCoultre Ellipse, Black dial, Ref. 5002.42, Ultra Thin, Automatic Cal. 900 from 1970s Gims Logo CrystalPng. The Jaeger LeCoultre Ellipse is one of those watches that needs very little explaining. Produced in the 1970s, it represents a particular moment in Swiss watchmaking when the best houses were pushing design as hard as they were pushing mechanics. Jaeger LeCoultre long regarded as the watchmaker's watchmaker, the manufacture that supplied movements to Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin turned that same precision inward and produced something quietly extraordinary. The case is stainless steel, oval in shape, and only 6mm thick. At 30. 8mm wide and 39mm lug to lug it sits close to the wrist with almost no presence at all until you notice it. The original sapphire crystal is clean, the JLC signed crown is intact, and the case retains its original lines without evidence of polishing. What makes this particular example special is the dial. There are no markers, no numerals just a black void and two slim gold hands floating across it. Inside, the ultra thin Calibre 900 a 28 jewel Swiss automatic runs reliably and keeps good time. A serious watch, worn quietly.
